Getting started
What does EasyEars do?+
EasyEars is a reference and metering plugin. It streams your mix to your phone over your own Wi-Fi, plays your reference tracks next to it with automatic loudness matching, matches the tone of a reference with a linear-phase Match EQ, and meters the result against EBU R128 and the loudness targets of the major streaming platforms.
Which plugin formats are there?+
On macOS: Audio Unit (AU) and VST3. On Windows: VST3 and CLAP.
Which macOS versions and Macs are supported?+
macOS 11.3 (Big Sur) or later. The build is universal - it runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Which DAWs does it work with?+
Any host that loads AU or VST3 - Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, Studio One and the rest. Logic's sandboxed Audio Units got extra attention during development.
Do you support Pro Tools?+
Not yet. There is no AAX build, so EasyEars does not load in Pro Tools.
Is there a standalone app?+
No. EasyEars is a plugin - it needs a host to run in.
Where do I put it in the chain?+
On your master bus. Put it last if you want it to measure what actually leaves the session; if you want its Match EQ to land before your limiter, run a second instance earlier in the chain and use Link to send the curve there.
Does it run on Windows?+
Yes - VST3 and CLAP on 64-bit Windows. The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may warn you the first time you run it.
Where does it install, and how do I remove it?+
On macOS the installer puts the Audio Unit in ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/EasyEars.component and the VST3 in ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/EasyEars.vst3. Drag either to the Trash to remove it. On Windows the installer writes to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\ and \CLAP\, and EasyEars appears in Add or Remove Programs like any other app.

Your references and presets live separately, in ~/Music/EasyEars on macOS, and the stem model in ~/Library/Application Support/EasyEars (on Windows, %LOCALAPPDATA%\EasyEars). Removing the plugin leaves those alone - delete them by hand if you want the disk space back.
How do updates work?+
EasyEars checks for a new version by itself and tells you when one is there. On macOS it downloads and installs it for you, after checking the signature to be sure the file really came from us; on Windows it downloads the signed installer and hands it to you to run, because the plugin folder needs admin rights. Either way, restart your DAW afterwards. Updates are free - included while a subscription is active, and forever on a Lifetime licence.
Does my audio go anywhere?+
No. Every bit of processing - reference playback, metering, Match EQ, soloing, the vectorscope, stem separation - happens on your own machine, and your audio is never uploaded to us. The phone stream stays inside your own network and passes through no server of ours. Your references and presets sit in a folder on your own disk. We never see your audio, your file names or anything about your project.
How it works
How does listening on my phone work?+
The plugin runs a small web server on your machine. Scan the QR code it shows and your phone opens a page that plays the audio in real time. You can add it to your home screen and it behaves like an app.
Can someone listen from another city?+
No. The stream only works inside your own local network - the listener has to be on the same Wi-Fi. EasyEars is not a remote-collaboration tool: there is no relay server, no account and no internet stream.
How many phones can listen at once?+
As many as your network can carry. Each listener has its own queue, so a slow phone only slows itself down.
Is there a delay on the phone?+
A little - it is a network stream, not a wire. Audio is sent in 10 ms packets and the phone keeps a small jitter buffer, typically 80 to 150 ms. It is made for judging tone and balance, not for tracking to.
Does the phone stream sound compressed?+
It uses Opus at 256 kbps in low-delay mode, which is near-transparent for listening. Uncompressed PCM is available too, if you would rather not have a codec in the path at all.
What is DELTA?+
Instead of switching between your mix and the reference, DELTA plays what is different between them. It is the fastest way to hear what you are actually missing.
Does it level-match the reference?+
Yes. Automatic loudness matching brings the reference to your mix so the louder one never simply sounds better. You can also match everything to a platform target instead.
What does Match EQ actually do?+
It compares the average spectrum of the reference with the average spectrum of your mix, works out the difference, smooths it into a musical curve, removes the broadband level difference so you are matching tone rather than loudness, and applies what is left.
Does Match EQ smear the phase?+
No. The filter is linear-phase, so nothing moves in time relative to anything else. Its latency is fixed and reported to your DAW, so the session stays sample-aligned.
What are the LR, Mid and Side curves?+
Three separate match curves. LR is the overall tone, Mid is the centre, Side is the stereo width and air. You can fix the tone without touching the width, or the other way round.
What can I automate?+
Two parameters: Morph (the amount of the main curve) and Width (the amount of the Side curve). They were deliberately kept to two, so saved projects keep loading correctly as the plugin evolves.
What are the solo bands?+
Six bands - Sub, Bass, Low, Mid, Hi and Ultra - each with an adjustable crossover and a 12 or 24 dB per octave slope. Solo one to check a problem, or merge neighbours into three wider bands.
Can I hear a single frequency?+
Yes. Hold a point on the spectrum and you hear a narrow resonant band at that frequency, with adjustable Q and a choice of stereo, mid or side.
Which loudness targets are built in?+
Eight: YouTube, Spotify, Spotify Loud, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon, Deezer and Club/CD - each with its own LUFS and True Peak values.
What does the metering cover?+
The full EBU R128 set: Momentary, Short-term and Integrated loudness with proper gating, Loudness Range, True Peak with 4x oversampling, and PLR. The K-weighting filter is recalculated for your session's sample rate, so 44.1 and 48 kHz both read correctly.
Can I split a reference into stems?+
Yes - Vocals, Drums, Bass and Other, processed offline on your own machine. The separation model is not bundled with the plugin: you accept its terms and download it once, about 158 MB.
What is Link for?+
It shares a match curve between instances of EasyEars in the same host - up to eight slots. Measure at the very end of the chain and apply the correction earlier, so your limiter stays last. Only the curve travels between instances, never audio.
How many references can I load?+
Three slots, each with its own cue markers and loop regions. Loaded files go into a library on disk so you can pull them back up in any session, and you can save the whole setup as a preset.
Do the shortcuts work with the window closed?+
Yes. There are 23 assignable targets, on the keyboard or via MIDI learn, and they keep working while the plugin window is shut.
Can I make the window smaller?+
Four sizes: full, a small strip, a mid size with a tray, and a wide 1280x760 cockpit - plus free resizing and zoom from 50% to 150%.
Does it change my audio?+
Only when you ask it to. Reference playback, metering, streaming and soloing are all monitoring - they never reach your render. The Match EQ does process your signal, and it is the one thing to switch off before you bounce if you only wanted to listen.
Troubleshooting
My phone will not connect+
Check that the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer, not on mobile data or a guest network. If the QR code does not open anything, type the address shown next to it into the phone's browser by hand.
The stream on my phone stutters+
That is the network, not the plugin. Move closer to the router, or switch off whichever band is congested. The phone rebuffers on its own and settles - if it keeps happening, drop the stream to a lower-bandwidth mode.
Windows warns me about the installer+
The Windows build is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen flags it. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Signing is on the list.
My DAW reports extra latency+
That is the linear-phase Match EQ. The amount is fixed, it is reported to your host, and delay compensation takes care of it. Bypass the Match EQ if you need the latency back while tracking.
My phone says the stream is on another instance+
Only one instance can own the phone connection at a time. The plugin offers to move it to the instance you are looking at - accept, and the phone reconnects without its address changing.
License & payment
How long is the free trial?+
Seven days, with everything unlocked. It runs on the one-machine monthly plan, so a card is needed to start it - but nothing is charged until day 8, and cancelling before then costs you nothing. Buy a licence before day 8 and we cancel the subscription for you.
Monthly, Yearly or Lifetime - what's the difference?+
Monthly (€5, first 7 days free) unlocks everything for as long as your subscription is active. Yearly (€39) is the same thing billed once a year, which works out a third cheaper. Lifetime (€79) is a one-time purchase you keep forever, including all future updates. There is no feature difference between any of them.
Can I use it on two machines?+
Yes. Every plan comes in a two-machine version: €7 a month, €49 a year, or €99 once for Lifetime. Pick “2 machines” above the prices on the Pricing page. A machine can be a Mac or a PC.
Does it work offline?+
Yes. A paid licence keeps working offline for 14 days before it quietly re-checks; on the trial that window is 3 days. Activating the licence in the first place needs a connection.
Can I reset the trial by reinstalling?+
No. The trial is tied to your machine, not to the install.
Can I get a refund?+
Within 14 days of your purchase, yes - email us and we refund it in full, no questions. After those 14 days all sales are final and we do not refund. That is why the monthly plan opens with 7 free days: try EasyEars on your own music, in your own room, before any money changes hands.
How do I cancel the monthly plan?+
Whenever you like, and yourself - every welcome and receipt email carries a billing link that opens your subscription page. Cancel during the first 7 days and you are charged nothing at all. Cancel later and the month you have already paid for runs to its end, with EasyEars fully working, and it simply does not renew after that; a month already charged is not refunded part-way. Lost the email? Open the same page with your licence key under Billing. If that fails too, write to support@easyoneaudio.com and we will cancel it for you.
Do I get free updates?+
Yes. Monthly includes updates while your subscription is active; Lifetime includes them forever.
Can I move my licence to a new computer?+
Yes. Deactivate it on the old machine and activate it on the new one.

Manage your subscription

Your licence key is all you need. It opens your own billing page, where you can cancel, switch between monthly and yearly, change the card and download every invoice.

Your key is in the welcome email, and in the plugin itself under About › Licence.
A Lifetime licence is bought once - there is no subscription to manage.
Moving between one and two machines is a new purchase: write to support@easyoneaudio.com and we will sort it out.

Privacy Policy

EasyEars is an audio plugin made by EasyOneAudio, an independent studio. It works on your own machine and on your own network, and this policy explains exactly what leaves it, what we collect, and why.

What happens on your machine

All audio processing - reference playback, metering, Match EQ, band soloing, the vectorscope and stem separation - runs locally. Your audio is never uploaded to us. Reference files you load and the presets you save are stored in a folder on your own disk (~/Music/EasyEars on macOS) and stay there.

Listening on your phone

When you turn on streaming, the plugin opens a small web server on your computer and hands out a QR code. That connection lives entirely on your local network - there is no relay server and nothing passes through us. Access is restricted by a token in the address, and requests without it are refused.

Because the connection is local, it is not encrypted. Anyone already on your Wi-Fi who has the address and the token could listen. On a home or studio network this is normally fine; on an open or shared network, treat it the way you would treat anything else you put on that network, and switch streaming off when you are done.

Licensing and the trial

When you start the trial or activate a licence, the plugin contacts our licensing service. For this we process your licence key (if you have one) and a machine identifier - a one-way hashed value derived from your computer that cannot be reversed back to it. This is what ties a licence to one machine and stops it being copied. We do not receive your name through the plugin.

We process this because it is necessary to give you the licence you bought - Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Anonymous usage analytics

EasyEars sends anonymous usage analytics, and this is switched on by default. It tells us which features are used and where the plugin runs into errors, so we know what to fix. It contains no audio, no file names and nothing about your project, and it is not linked to your identity.

You can turn it off at any time in the plugin's About panel. It stays off.

Our basis for this is our legitimate interest in knowing which parts of EasyEars are used and where it breaks, so that we can fix the right things - Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. It is anonymous, it never contains audio or project data, and the switch above is always yours.

Feedback and support

If you email us, or use the feedback form inside the plugin, we receive your message, your email address and any files you chose to attach, so that we can reply. Nothing is attached unless you attach it.

Updates and the stem-separation model

  • Update checks contact our update server to compare version numbers. No personal data is sent.
  • Stem separation is optional and its model is not bundled with the plugin. If you choose to enable it, the model is downloaded once from a third-party host, which will see your IP address for the duration of that download in the ordinary way any download works. Nothing about your session is sent with it.

Service providers

  • Licensing is handled by Supabase, which stores licence records on our behalf solely to validate licences.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details - Stripe handles them directly under its own privacy policy.
  • Email - licence keys, receipts and our replies to your feedback are delivered by Resend, which handles the sending on our behalf and sees the address they go to.
  • Our website uses analytics and advertising services (Google Analytics 4 and Meta) to measure traffic and how our ads perform. They load by default and are switched off if you press "Decline" in the cookie banner. If you give us your email address when you buy or start a trial, we may share it with Meta in irreversibly hashed form (SHA-256) so that we can measure our ads and reach people similar to our customers - Meta receives the hash, never the address itself. Email us to opt out and we will remove you within 7 days.

Website analytics and advertising run on your consent - Article 6(1)(a) GDPR - which you give or refuse in the cookie banner. Everything else on this page rests on the bases named beside it.

Where your data goes

Some of the companies above are based in the United States, so the data they handle for us leaves the European Economic Area. Those transfers rest on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified under it, and on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses otherwise. We do not send anything anywhere else.

How long we keep things

Licence records live for as long as the licence does, and for 12 months after it was last used - long enough to help you if you come back, and to settle a chargeback. Support and feedback emails are kept for 24 months. Anonymous usage rows are kept for 24 months and then deleted. Payment records are held by Stripe for the ten years that accounting law requires, and we never hold your card details ourselves.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it - just email us. Ask us to delete it and we will do it within 30 days, and tell you when it is done.

You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in the country you live in if you think we have handled your data wrongly.

Changes

If we update this policy we will change the date above and post the new version here.

Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and EasyOneAudio for using EasyEars. By downloading or using the plugin, you agree to them.

Who can buy

You need to be 16 or older to buy a licence or start a trial. If you are younger, ask a parent or guardian to do it for you.

Your license

We grant you a personal license to use EasyEars:

  • Monthly - a license valid for as long as your subscription is active.
  • Yearly - the same license, billed once a year.
  • Lifetime (one-time) - a perpetual license, including future updates.
  • Two machines - every plan also comes in a version covering two machines instead of one.

A license is tied to your machine and may not be shared, resold, sublicensed or reverse-engineered. You can move it to a new machine by deactivating it on the old one.

Free trial

The monthly plan starts with 7 free days, with every feature unlocked. A payment method is required to begin it. If you do nothing, the trial converts to a €5/month subscription at the end of the seventh day and your card is charged then. Cancel at any point during those 7 days and you are charged nothing at all - you can do it yourself from the billing link in your welcome email, and we will email you before the trial ends. The 7 free days run on the one-machine monthly plan only - the yearly plans, the two-machine plans and the one-time Lifetime licences start paid. If you buy a licence while your trial is still running, we cancel the subscription for you straight away, so you are never charged the €5 on top of the licence.

Payments & renewals

Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Monthly subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel; you can cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Refunds

Under EU consumer law you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of purchase: if you change your mind within 14 days, email us and we’ll issue a full refund. After this 14-day period, no refunds will be provided and all sales are final. Because the monthly plan starts with 7 free days, please use them to make sure EasyEars works for you before any money changes hands.

What the plugin does

EasyEars analyses and monitors your audio and, when you engage its Match EQ, processes it. Reference playback, metering, streaming and band soloing are monitoring only and do not reach your render. It does not modify your project file, your plug-ins or your audio files on disk. Always keep your own backups of your work.

What you need to run it

On macOS: version 11.3 (Big Sur) or later, on either Apple Silicon or Intel - the build is universal and runs natively on both. EasyEars installs as an Audio Unit and as a VST3.

On Windows: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, as a VST3 and as a CLAP. The interface is a web view, so the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is required; the installer adds it for you if it is missing.

In both cases you need a host that loads one of those formats - EasyEars is a plugin and has no standalone application. There is no AAX build, so it does not load in Pro Tools.

The plugin takes under 150 MB of disk space. Stem separation is optional and its model is a further 158 MB, downloaded only if you ask for it. Listening on your phone needs the phone and the computer to be on the same local network.

An internet connection is required to activate a licence or start the trial. After that a paid licence keeps working offline for 14 days before it re-checks; on the trial that window is 3 days.

Local streaming

The streaming feature serves audio on your own local network only. You are responsible for the network you use it on and for who has access to it. Switch streaming off when you do not need it.

Third-party components

Stem separation relies on a machine-learning model that is not part of EasyEars and is downloaded separately, on your instruction, under its own license terms - which you accept at the point of download. Open-source components used in the plugin are listed in its About panel.

“As is”

We work hard to keep EasyEars compatible with current versions of macOS, Windows and the major DAWs, but the plugin is provided “as is” and without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every host, every operating-system update or every machine.

What we are not liable for

Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not let us limit. Subject to that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, EasyOneAudio is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of EasyEars - including lost work, lost time, lost profit, lost or damaged recordings, sessions or files, and any indirect or consequential loss of any kind. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you actually paid us for your licence. Always keep your own backups of your work.

Changes & termination

We may update these terms (we’ll change the date above) or discontinue the plugin, and we may suspend a license used in breach of these terms.

If part of these terms does not hold

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force and that part is read down to what the law does allow.

If something goes wrong

Write to support@easyoneaudio.com first - almost everything is settled in an email or two, and we would much rather fix a problem than argue about one. We are not signed up to any alternative dispute resolution body. If you are a consumer in the EU and we cannot agree, your national consumer authority can advise you on what is available where you live.
